The latest version of E3.series contains new and enhanced functionality that further increases productivity throughout all phases of electrical and fluid engineering.
Design data management and library management capabilities have been included by integrating DS-E3 functionality into the E3.series user interface. This allows the user to access certified library information, manage options and variants and initiate or respond to change requests within the E3.series environment. Electrical design data can be integrated with electronic data using the DS-2 platform.
On a process level, integration into parallel and downstream activities and disciplines has been deepened and extended. This can be seen in data exchange with mechanical engineering and PLC programming toolsets, and with data output generation for wire processing and NC machinery.
E3.series 2017 marks another milestone in the continuous evolution of Zuken’s easy-to-use, yet powerful electrical and fluid engineering tools for advanced design-to-manufacture in the machinery, transportation and automation sectors.
New auto route command: 'Auto Route by selection'
A new ‘Auto Route by selection’ command allows the user to interactively autoroute two selected pins. After activating the routing in the toolbar, eligible pins are automatically highlighted when the mouse is moved over them.
Enhanced loading and placing of devices
Using the newly added ‘insert multiple’ command in E3.schematic, multiple devices can now by loaded from the library in a single action. They can be selected from the device tree for automatic placement using the ‘place one by one’ command. The selection can be applied to several levels such as: all devices in a folder, structure nodes, or individually selected terminals. The auto placement process can be skipped for individual symbols (using the button N) and aborted using the ESC command.
Graphic and attribute painter functionality
Graphical properties and device attributes can now be transferred between objects using the new graphic and format painter functionality.
Pictograms can be used as an additional ‘language’ for international documentation.
Automatic selection of wire seals
For creating detailed cable plans with E3.cable, wire seals can now be automatically added to all devices that are that are flagged as sealed in the device properties. The automatic selection is based on the definition of eligible seals and the wire outer diameter. If wires are changed or modified, the wire seal will be updated automatically.
Mounting rails and cable ducts in any angle
In E3.series’ advanced 2D/3D cabinet and panel layout application, E3.panel, mounting rails and cable ducts can now be placed and rotated to any angle. Docking points for automatic placement and routing will be rotated accordingly. This new function allows greater freedom in panel design with improved use of available space, especially in panel layout where form, fit and function are rapidly gaining importance.
Sorting of terminal strips and automatic merge into multi-level terminals
Cabinet layout in E3.panel has been enhanced with a new sorting functionality for terminal strips. Several terminal strips can be selected for simultaneous sorting. Selection can be applied in the device tree or by area, in both the device tree and the terminal table. This offers time savings as all terminal strips can be sorted in one step rather than separately.
Formboard layout for harness creation
The wiring diagram ‘flattening’ options in E3.formboard have been extended by the option to retain the segment angles from 3D-wiring diagrams created in MCAD environments. This option adds to the orthogonal flattening function previously provided by E3.formboard. The user may still see the shape of the harness even if it is flattened and the Z-coordinate is removed.
Data Exchange with PLC programming environments
The choice of supported formats for data exchange with PLC programming toolsets has been extended to include the AML format (Automation Markup Language). AML is an industry standard XML structure for the exchange of PLC data used by leading PLC Manufacturers such as ABB, Siemens, Lenze, Phoenix Contact, Mitsubishi Electric and Murr Elektronik, The new AML import and export capabilities included in E3.PLCBridge add to the existing interfaces of B&R and ABB. The new AML import and export capabilities require a specific licence.
Electrical engineering data management
Zuken’s new electrical data and workflow management solution integrates directly into Zuken’s E3.series suite for electrical and fluid design, so engineers do not need to leave their CAD application to carry out everyday tasks. Engineers can increase their productivity by reducing the number of individual applications and user interfaces they use.
DS-E3 is designed specifically for electrical design and manufacturing engineers. It provides them with current, validated material information and libraries, design data and BOM information to manage tasks and workflows for change and approval processes, and supports intelligent design configuration and reuse through module and variant management.
Electrical engineers use E3.series and DS-E3, along with Zuken’s DS-2 cross-disciplinary engineering data management platform, to manage electronics design data from Zuken’s CR-8000 suite for 2D/3D electronic design.
