How I Explain to My Relatives What I Do as a Systems Engineer
By: Fran McCafferty

So you work on the railroad? That’s a common question systems engineers often get–coupled with a confused expression–when they tell people what they do. For those of you who are curious, or who may need help explaining what it is you do, Vitech’s Fran McCafferty has compiled a useful list to help people understand.

eBook
Digital Engineering for Electrical & Electronic Design

This eBook describes an MBSE based process for Electrical and Electronic design. The eBook begins with model content and structure with the purpose of implementation and the need for a “design envelope”.

The biggest challenge in MBSE gaining broad adoption is making the model relevant through the product life cycle. Learn how you can overcome this daunting hurdle while maintaining the model as the single source of truth.

Pre-Layout Analysis Phase for High-Speed Designs, Part 2
By: Lance Wang

In my last post (Pre-Layout Analysis Phase for High-speed Designs, Part 1), we discussed why we need to perform pre-analysis and how to use the pre-layout analysis features in Zuken’s CR-8000 Design Gateway and Design Force. This post continues the discussion, focusing on using a constraint-driven methodology in the pre-layout analysis phase.

CR-8000
CR-8000 Design Force “Rules by Area” for those Dense Areas of the PCB
During the design cycle of a PCB, there may be times when the designer needs to loosen the rules to route in a dense area in their design. The way to do this is to create a “Rule Area” that will call for different design rules in the enclosed area. Helping Designer achieve 100 percent routing in a dense area of the PCB...

How to Use the Harness Builder for E3.series Additional Parts Feature
How to use the additional parts feature of Harness Builder for E3.series to aid in the harness drawing process. While creating our harness designs in E3.series we may want to include additional accessories for our devices. For example, with connectors, we might want to include things like wedge locks, back shells, dust caps, mounting accessories, heat shields, etc...

How to Build a Video Drone Using Digital Engineering (Part 1)
Wednesday, April 14th, 2021 - 2:00 EST

This webinar will use systems engineering best practices to build the video drone model based on product marketing requirements. Using Vitech’s GENESYS product the system context will be defined that includes the drone, remote control, a phone App, a GPS satellite and the operating environment. The marketing requirements are then decomposed into requirements, behaviors, parameters and ultimately an architecture. Different aspects of the model will be explored using SysML diagrams including the Constraint Definitions which are used in part 2 of the webinar series for trade studies.

Upcoming Webinar
How to Perform a Video Drone Model Trade Study (Part 2)
Wednesday, May 5th, 2021 - 2:00 EST

This webinar will demonstrate systems engineering best practices in verifying product requirements using a MBSE model. Parameters and Constraint definitions will be used to build equations to analyze various aspects of the model that lead to a business value trade-off. A critical product requirement is the operational time. Various aspects of the design will be analyzed to determine the system’s ability to meet that requirement. The ability to meet that requirement along with weight, cost, and video performance will be rolled up into business value analysis. The analysis will be run through Model Center and integrate various analysis tools.
